We all know the obvious reason that we want to get our rabbit spayed, and it's so you don't get a bunch f baby bunnies. But getting your rabbit fixed is actually for a lot more things than that. For example, female rabbits have a way higher chance of getting special types of cancer if they are not spayed, and any rabbit who isnt fixed will have crazy hormones. (In other words, they'll be stuck in that teenager stage for the rest of their life.) Rabbits who are not fixed will rip u carpet, dig their litterboxes, snort, nip, and much more. So do the world a favor, and get your bun fixed!

Why is getting your rabbit fixed important?

Finding a good vet

You may be suprised about this, but not all vets take rabbits. Rabbits are considered exotic pets and vetranarians have to go through special training to take care of exoctic pets. This also means that getting your rabbit fixed will cost more than getting cats and dogs fixed. To find a good vet, you can use plenty of resources. Small animal magazines have directories, and you can also just call around to your local vets. The House Rabbit Society also has a great directory as well and they only put in the best. When you find a vet that treats rabbits, you shouldn't be sold right away. Ask them these questions:

  • "How many rabbits have you fixed?"

  • "Do I need to fast my rabbit?" (The answer should be no.)

  •  "Will my rabbit take any medications ending in "cillin"- like penicillin- after the surgery?" (The answer should be no.)
